’27 Steps of May’ screened at 2019 Göteborg Film Festival

The 2018 movie 27 Steps of May, helmed by Ravi Bharwani, is being screened at the 2019 Göteborg Festival in Sweden. Dubbed the largest film festival in Scandinavia, the event is held from Jan. 25 to Feb. 4.

Marking its debut in Europe, the film is playing for four days from Jan. 28 to Jan. 31, in the Five Continents program, which presents 70 of the best films worldwide considered to provide a new perspective and diversity in the film industry. Garin Nugroho’s Memories of My Body is being screened within the same program as well.

Starring Raihaanun, Lukman Sardi, Ario Bayu and Verdi Solaiman, the 112-minute drama narrates the experience of a woman who wants to recover from the trauma of rape and the struggle of a father who has accompanied her daughter for eight years to try and get her life back.

27 Steps of May has been in several film festivals and we plan to present this to Indonesian audiences in April,” said scriptwriter Rayya Makarim, who is also present at the festival alongside Ravi for a post-screening discussion.

First screened at the 2018 Busan International Film Festival, 27 Steps of May has received various awards, namely the Golden Hanoman award for Asian Feature category at the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival 2018 and in the Selected Scriptwriter and Selected Actress categories at the 2018 Tempo Film Festival.
